HBO
We never had cable when I was a kid, but I would go to my cousin’s house from time to time and watch Fraggle Rock on HBO, and I clearly remember being entranced by the animated network intro. This video documents the painstaking process that went into it. Wow. [Source]

That’s fantastic. I love how creative FX artists had to be with their techniques back then. It would all be done on a computer now.

No kidding. I love the nighttime city flyover — it reminds me of the opening of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, only epic. There’s so much love in those little models.

The last time I saw it was many years ago, back in the nineties, when HBO was still a non premium channel. I never thought creating it was so complex.
I agree with you, back then creators would have to rely on more than programmers to get the job done, and you can tell that the effort behind all that would make the project much more valuable to the people involved.
Cheers Nick, great finding!

Man, that takes me back like you wouldn’t believe it.
I love those old time making of videos, such creativity and “movie magic”, these days you just have a guy with a mouse talking to the camera with a looping animation on his monitor… sigh…
