The Forest Kingdom of Arboria
The approach to the Prince Barin’s realm of Arboria is one of my favorite sequences in Flash Gordon 1980. Everything looks so real and tangible, like you could reach out and touch it, which of course makes sense. More shots of the approach after the break.

Again real materials make for a more believable scene. When your mind knows that something is computer generated it feels twice removed from the scene. We know consciously that the thing isn’t there. I’d love to see some directors go back to using puppets and models and everything to create a believable world.
