Mice

Something inside me starts to panic every time I read an article like this declaring the mouse to be on its way out. I hate trackpads and can barely use them, and while I enjoy touchscreens from time to time, I need a mouse to get anything done.

  1. It really depends on the trackpad you use. The Mac trackpads are wonderful to use, but the ones that come standard on most laptops today just aren’t that great.

And the mouse will always exist. Too many people rely on tablets and mice to get digital illustrations and layouts done.

You are still a huge market and you don’t have to worry about your kind dying out anytime soon.

Sure there will be competitors, as the article mentions, that don’t even require you to touch anything. You just point or bark a command.

  2. The Apple trackpads are very nice. But still, I’m one of those crazy people that does real work on my computer, I need a real mouse, with a middle click in order to get stuff done.

  3. I’m in agreement with the above mssr. Although if given a choice I’d just as well us a Wacom tablet, if I had the money AND the space on my desk. Its great for graphic work and a helluva lot more accurate than any mouse I’ve used… EVER!

Wouldn’t it be fun to have an exhibit of the history of the mouse? It would show the prototypes of the device (and if you do a search you’ll see alot of ‘em!) and the steady development of the device as it goes from ceramic ball, laser, infra-red pinpoint and the current ‘in’ thing the touch mouse. From there the exhibit could branch off into future developments and introduce prototypes or designs from companies or design schools!

    Anyway…

  4. You should get something like that going in Seoul! Could be really cool.

  5. Man, that type of fad-worshiping journalist really gets under my skin more than I should let it.
