NSMB Wii

I’ve now spent enough time with the game, both in single and multi-player, to conclude that it truly is everything I wanted the original NSMB to be and more. I even love the visuals.

  1. Agreed. It’s a gorgeous, gorgeous wonderful game. I might have liked it more with 2D graphics, but I like it plenty as is.

  2. I would have loved to see the NSMB DS levels as a bonus for completing the game (even if just for multiplayer…), or even some sort of rudimentary level editor to go along with it. Otherwise, it seems a little short and incomplete.

  3. I loved New Super Mario Bros. Wii, far supperior to it’s DS counter part. They fixed all the nagging issues I had with their original attempt.

Although I was a little leery about the Propeller Cap and Penguin Suit I in the end fell in love so quickly I was surprised. They certainly trumped the Mega Mushroom… that power up was always to me a kind of cheap power up that in the end wasn’t effective in a lot of levels anyhow as you become constricted at certain points.

The level design is top notch, it takes a lot of thought to come up with levels that are engaging in both single and multiplayer outings. I’ve played the same level with different amounts of people of different skill level with different exciting and entertaining results.

I have no complaints… the only thing was that originally I felt like there could’ve been more levels in each world, but then I took a look back at games like Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World, and I realized those games didn’t have near the same amount of levels as New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

I was in the end very satisfied, I don’t care if it’s not 3D, or doesn’t make use of every graphical effect as the gameplay is what I enjoy the most.

  4. I’ve only dabbled in NSMB on Wii and the thing that’s prevented me from continuing (although I’m sure I’ll finish at some point) is the fact that you’re restricted to the normal controller, and that it doesn’t have classic controller support. I played a few of the Super Mario games on virtual console with the classic controller and I got really used to it and was expecting it to be a definite inclusion in the new game. I find the normal controller really rigid and annoying.

On the topic of NSMB on DS, I actually loved playing that game. Can’t remember having many problems with that game.

  5. @Adrian,
The problem with NSMB DS is that it’s too easy.

Of course, for the the problem with NSMB Wii is that I can’t get all the star coins in world 9, ie. it’s too hard. Ç’est la vie.

  6. On that note, I should add that I can’t believe how hard NSMB Wii is. Not a bad thing, just surprising. It’s the return of hardcore 2D Mario platforming. Right on.

  7. I am not really sure how anyone could find the game to be hard. I breezed through the levels up until around the end, and I have always sucked at Mario games. I kind of wish they tried to do something a bit new with the game as well. For me, once I got past the nostalgia I realized that this was pretty much the same game I played twenty years ago.
That said, however, I di have a lot of fin playing it.

  8. Ok, I know it’s too soon and some didn’t like NSMBWii… but I would love a sequel to it released in 2011. 2010 is too soon and practically impossible for Nintendo since they have to release Metroid: Another M, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Zelda Wii (on March, August and October respectively one would think), plus smaller releases like Endless Ocean 2 and Sin and Punishment 2, not to mention all their DS/DSi releases as well as those on Wiiware or DSiware.
